Human rights and Responsibilities for a Culture of Peace and Knowledge in a BA Video-Conference

Alexandria— On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the BA will hold an international video-conference on Wednesday, 16 July 2008, between Alexandria, Brussels, Leuven and Paris.

A number of distinguished speakers are expected to participate in the conference and among whom are: Dr. John Crowley (UNESCO), Dr. Angela Liberatore (European Commission), Dr. Federico Mayor (Foundation Culture of Peace), Prof. Raoul Weiler (Wikimedia).

The conference aims at abridging the gap extant between universal rights and derived duties and responsibilities towards a culture of peace and knowledge in an interdisciplinary way. Key issues discussed at the event are: The development of a globally intellectual solidarity by Wikipedia; Advances towards a Culture of Peace worldwide; UNESCO’s philosophy on rethinking rights and responsibilities; Emphasizing the universal right to education, freedom of expression, enjoyment of scientific advances and cultural rights.

The conference will start at 17:00 at the Gad Rausing Auditorium, Main Library.
