Alexandria— The Arab Union for UNESCO Clubs, in cooperation with the Egyptian Federation of UNESCO Clubs is organizing the Third Meeting of the Arab Federation of UNESCO Clubs, an international event with the slogan "Together on the Road to Knowledge Societies", 22 and 23 October 2008, at the BA.

The meeting is held under the auspices of the National Egyptian Educational, Scientific and Cultural Committee and with the support of the UNESCO and the Library of Alexandria. The meeting aims to support the Arab Federation of UNESCO Clubs, activate the role of UNESCO Clubs in Arab countries, and prepare for the General Conference of the Arab Federation of UNESCO Clubs, to be held in one of the Arab countries during 2009.

This round of Arab UNESCO Clubs gives impetus to the role of UNESCO Clubs in the dissemination of knowledge through information and communication technologies and implements the recommendation of the Regional Forum of UNESCO Clubs in Arab Countries held in Beirut in February 2002, which called upon national associations to organize training courses for members of UNESCO clubs.

A workshop entitled “Controlling Information and Communication Technology” will be held on the fringe line of the meeting, in cooperation with the BA, where 4 or 6 selected youngsters from Arab countries who are experts in the field of information, communication, and multimedia will participate.

On the other hand, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO) members will meet for their Fourth Annual Meeting to announce the TWAS-ARO young affiliates and the TWAS-ARO Regional Prize winner. The prize this year is presented under the slogan “The Development of Educational Material for Schools’ Science Curricula” and will be awarded to Dr. Saouma B. Jaoude from the American University of Beirut.

It is worth mentioning that TWAS-ARO aims to promote scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in the region. The overall objective of the TWAS-ARO is to promote the activities of TWAS and its affiliated organizations in the region, as recommended by the Academy's current and future strategic plans.
