The BA will host the 2nd Arab Conference for Commercial and Maritime Law, ACCML'08, on "The 21st Century Challenges for International Commercial Arbitration", 24-25 November 2008, organized by the Arab Society for Commercial and Maritime Law, ASCM ( http://www.ascml.org), in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of 1958 New York Convention on Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards.
It is true that International Commercial Arbitration can take pride in its current worldwide prosperity. However, a number of challenges remain. Among them is the divergence between different jurisdictions over matters of the interpretation of the 1958 New York Convention; the scope of the public policy exception in matters related to arbitration; as well as the paradox of arbitrability (subjective and objective). These are the main topics that will be addressed in ACCML'08.
ACCML’08 is organized in cooperation of Indiana University Law School —Indianapolis and the law schools of Alexandria & Cairo Universities. Support is received from the Public Information Center of the World Bank in Cairo, Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (The International Transport & Logistics Institute) and USAID Egypt.
