Closing of the Arab Reform Conference at the BA

Alexandria—The Sixth Arab Reform Conference came to a close at the BA on 3 March 2009. The Conference entitled “The Arab World: Present and Future” was attended by more than 600 thinkers, intellectuals and public figures from Egypt and the Arab World.
In the morning, four parallel sessions were held, and later Dr. Adel Abu Zahra’s Prize was handed out. This prize is given annually by the BA to civil society organizations working on environment preservation, women empowerment, freedom of expression and dialogue, and artistic creativity.
In the closing session, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, presented some significant projects currently undertaken by the BA, including the Science SuperCourse project and the Digital Assets Repository (DAR). Later, the final reports of the four tracks of the Conference, namely: A Changing Arab World in a Changing Planet; Regional Interactions; The Citizen, the State and the Society; and Culture and Media in the Arab World were presented.
