The Islamic month of Ramadan is especially distinguished and observed by Muslims and non-Muslims across the Arab and Islamic worlds. This is because the month reschedules and changes the daily life, and it is time for fasting and devotion. Every year, people anxiously await the beginning and end of Ramadan, and there is also evident and frequent disagreement among many Arab states about determining the beginning or end of this month.

This month ,the Astronomy Night will tackle the disagreements between two major debating teams of scholars. For determining the beginning of Ramadan, one team supports the visual sighting of the Ramadan crescent, while the other supports the application of astronomical computation. We will also present the results of the astronomical calculations of the beginning of next Ramadan.

The lecture will be conducted by Dr. Omar Fikry.

The program also includes the regular features: Planetarium Show, Astronomy Contest and Observing Session. We will observe Jupiter, Saturn and the summer stars, through the telescope.
