Intel Science Copetition-Arab World 2015 Winners

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in collaboration with Intel Egypt and Sharaf Foundation for sustainable development have organized the sixth Intel Science Competition – Arab World from 17 to 19 December 2015, in which more than 110 students from 11 Arab countries have participated in the competition. They presented 77 projects and competed for prizes worth 20,000 US dollars.
  
More than 40 judges, representing 10 Arab countries, chose the winning projects based on certain criteria including creativity and scientific thinking in their projects, in addition to achieving the engineering goals, focusing on details, the students’ skills, clarity of ideas, and team work. Egypt won the first and third places; the first place award (2,500 US dollars) went to Mohamed Ayman Mohamed Abd El-Latif from Egypt for his project entitled “Isolating Cancer Cells from the Lungs and prevent them from growing”. The second place award (2,000 US dollars) went to Mariam Mohamed El-Hashimy from the United Arab Emirates for her project “Manifestation in Plastic”, while the third place award (1,500 US dollars) went to Amr Mostafa Ibrahim Omar and Fady Mostafa Ibrahim Omar from Egypt for their project “Finding the area and the circumference of the circle by knowing any of its cords”.

In addition to these winners, six projects won “The Best in Category” awards; where Egypt won three awards. Another Six projects won special awards granted from Mawheba institution and Shouman institution; Egypt was awarded on of these special awards.

Intel Science Competition-Arab World (ISC) 2015 Best in Category awards:

• Best in “Behavioral and Social Sciences” category award went to Raneem El-Hariry from Lebanon for her project “Sighted Stick”.
•  Best in “Cellular and Molecular Biology”, “Microbiology”, “Animal Sciences”, “Biomedical and Health sciences”, and “Plant Sciences” categories went to Mohamed Ayman Mohamed Abd El-Latif from Egypt for his project “Isolating Cancer Cells from the Lungs and prevent them from growing”.
• Best in “Embedded Systems”, “Robotics and Intelligent Machines”, “Systems Software”, “Computational Biology and Bioinformatics”, and “Engineering Mechanics” categories went to Mohanad Ehab Hassan Barakat from Egypt for his project “A new approach to determine the cause of the crying baby using nervous cells and industrial wireless network”.
• Best in “Mathematics”, “Physics and Astronomy”, and “Materials Sciences” categories went to Amr Mostafa Ibrahim Omar and Fady Mostafa Ibrahim Omar from Egypt for their project “Finding the area and the circumference of the circle by knowing any of its cords”.
• Best in “Energy: Physical” and “Energy: Chemical” categories went to Nora Hamad Sultan El-Meri and Marwa Rashed Seif Ali Hatem from United Arab Emirates for their project “Smart, Electrical, and Thermal Buildings”.
• Best in “Chemistry” “Biochemistry”, “Environmental Engineering”, and “Earth and Environmental Sciences” categories went to Mariam Mohamed El-Hashimy from United Arab Emirates for her project “Manifestation in Plastic”.

Intel Science Competition-Arab World (ISC) 2015 Special Awards:

• The special award granted from Mawheba institution went to:
- Hassaan Ibn Ali Ibn Saad El-Shemary from Saudi Arabia for his project “Determining the effect of the damper C-11 in the ability of stem cells to transform into fat cells”.
- Eyad Tot from Lebanon for his project “Automatic Writing Assistant”.
- Mohamed Ibn Khaled Ibn Suliman El-Taweyian from Saudi Arabia for his project “The discovery of the subtypes of T cells and their relation to regulating the inflammatory response in Asthma”.
• The special award granted from Shouman institution went to:
- Mohanad Ehab Hassan Barakat from Egypt for his project “A new approach to determine the cause of the crying baby using nervous cells and industrial wireless network”.
- Mofeed Farid Ahmed Alawna from Palestine for his project “The wireless Irrigation System”.
- Omar Hany El-Omaryayn and Rashed Bassam El-Omaryayn from Jordan for their project “The usage of smart systems in the renewable energy”.

The Minister of Education Dr. El-Hilaly El-Sherbiny, the Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Dr. Badr El-din El-Alayly, in addition to the representatives of the Moroccan, Saudi, Omani, Palestinian, and Kuwaiti embassies attended the awards ceremony.

On this occasion, Mr. Taha Khalifa, the regional General Manager of Intel corporation in the Middle East and North Africa, declared that the Intel Science Competition in the Arab World is a milestone in the future of the young scientists in the Arab world, assuring that these young inventors are the best and will make our world a better place.

On the other hand, Ayman El-Sayed, the director of the BA Planetarium Science Center , described this competition as an influential event in the future of the country and expressed his conviction that these young scientists and researchers will lead the exploration of new horizons in the fields of science and technology for the elevation of human beings. He also added that the real award to these young talented people is offering them the opportunity to excel in science and technology. The director of the PSC assured that these scientists will do the best to enrich the advancement of science and technology on all levels, local regional and international.

The former Prime Minister of Egypt and the chairman of Sharaf institution Dr. Essam Sharaf stressed on the institution’s interest to encourage innovation and to train students on the ethics and methods of scientific research. He added that the strategic partnership between the BA and Intel to organize the Intel Science Competition in the Arab World which stems from our belief that focusing on the creative skills of students has become an urgent need for our region.

This year’s competition took place under the auspices of Abd El-Hamid Shouman institution, the Turky group, the Masr EL-Kheir institution, the Academy of Scientific Reasearch, and the King Abd El-Aziz institution for creativity (Mawheba).
