The planetarium science center (PSC) will hold a series of activities under the umbrella of the ISCSMD revolving around the following aim: enhancing the knowledge of how important to access affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern sources of energy in our country. The program’s duration is 1 month and the activities included are:
1. A one day field trip to Beni Suef new combined-cycle natural gas power plant, located in Beni Suef in the southern part of the country, approximately 110 km south of Cairo. It will be the world's biggest gas-fired combined-cycle power plant complex when fully-operated in 2017, capable of providing electricity to approximately 15 million Egyptians. Not to mention, how such a great infrastructure can contribute in the development of neighbor rural villages by offering many job opportunities, and hence, changing people lives. The fieldtrip will be targeting students aged from 15 to 20 years.
2. A Three to four day project entitled “clean energy at your door step”, implemented in 2-3 houses, located in marginalized area that do not have the access to clean energy sources. The project will entail the design of a simple tool that can light up a house using only solar panel chip and a water bottle. The Solar Bottle is installed in the roof of homes with the purpose of refracting sunlight in order to light up a room. The project’s innovation lies in its utilization of cheap, durable and readily available materials to produce high quality natural lighting enabling the urban poor to have access to an affordable, environmentally friendly long-term alternative to electric light for use during the day.
3. School visits, offering hands on workshops and presentations about renewable energy resources and energy conservation practices.
4. A public event at the end of the program on 10 November, inviting exhibitors from different organizations and backgrounds to offer sessions, demonstrations and workshops for the public about their success stories in using clean energy resources and promote for the effective use of energy.
