H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his Italian counterpart, H.E. Mr. Franco Frattini, have agreed to declare 2009 the Egypt-Italy Science Year. The year will encompass a diversity of activities that will take place in various venues all over Egypt.
To celebrate the inauguration of the Egypt–Italy Science Year 2009, and in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and the Italian Embassy, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the Inaugural Ceremony on Saturday, 10 January 2009, at the Small Theater, BA Conference Center (BACC), starting at 10:00 am.
The Ceremony will begin with opening speeches delivered by H.E. Dr. Hani Helal, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education, H.E. Dr. Mariastella Gelmini, Italian Minister of Education, and H.E. Mr. Claudio Pacifico, Italian Ambassador to Egypt.
The Ceremony also marks the official inauguration of the 'Blow-Up, Images from the Nano-World' exhibition, which aims to reveal the hidden and mysterious world of nanotechnology. This Exhibition is open to the public, free of charge, 8-27 January 2009, at the East Exhibition Hall, BACC.
Other exhibitions to be hosted by the BA as part of the Egypt-Italy Science Year 2009 will include:
- The Arctic - The Antarctic: 14-30 May 2009
- The White Heart of Our Planet Travelling Exhibition: 19 May–19 June 2009
This exhibition will be traveling from 1 April to 17 May to Aswan, Luxor, Qena, Sohag, Assiut, El-Minya, Beni Sweif, Cairo and El-Gouna
