03 February 2010
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted the Secretariat Office of the Arab Network for Women in Science and Technology (ANWST) starting 3 February 2010. The purpose of ANWST is to build on individual and collective capacity to promote the role of Women in Science and Technology in the Arab World.
ANWST is a network set up at the Gulf University; its President, Dr. Rafia Ghubash, is the Former President of the Gulf University. According to the ANWST mandate, the secretariat office has to rotate between the 22 Arab countries. Accordingly, with the consent of Dr. Ghubash, ANWST Secretariat has been relocated to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) to be working under the umbrella of the BA, UNESCO Cairo office and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS).
On that occasion, a roundtable discussion also took place on that day with eminent scientists and scholars, including Prof. Hind Hanafy, President of Alexandria University; and Dr. Rashika El Ridi, Prof. at Cairo University and recipient of the L’Oreal 2010 Women in Science award.
