On Saturday 18 December 2010, for the second year in a row, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is hosting more than 120 competitors from Alexandria and other governorates to participate in Famelab, a competition organized by the British Council and the Ministry of High Education and Scientific Research Program of Research, Development and Innovation. This competition aims at communicating scientific issues and thoughts to the public in a simple way through different media.
Engineer Hoda Al Mikaty, Director, BA Planetarium Science Center, participates among the jury, with Dr. Abd El-Hameed El-Zohery, coordinator of the Research, Development and Innovation Program, Dr. Nadia El-Awady, president of the International Federation of Scientific Journalists and Dr. Ibrahim Al Kerdany, spokesman and media advisor of the World Health Organization office in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Famelab is an international scientific competition that started at the Cheltenham Science Festivity, United Kingdom. It aims at making the process of learning science easier and exhilarating through inviting competitors to make a 3 minute presentation about any topic related to science. The presentation has to be simple, easy to understand, accurate and clear. Famelab encourages youth scientists to express themselves and communicate with the public in an accessible and interactive manner.
