The Planetarium Science Center (PSC), in collaboration with Intel Co. organized the Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF) hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) from 13-15 March 2011. The event was a success; this year, 63 projects participated in Intel BASEF; the students competed in all stages with enthusiasm and zest, introducing their creative abilities, scientific thinking, skills, and innovative ideas to the judges and the encouraging audience.
All projects participated in Intel BASEF received awards; however, the first three grand awards will represent Egypt in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) from 8-13 May 2011.
The first grand award went to Mohamed Magdy in the Engineering: Electrical and Mechanical category for his project “Cars controller by satellite (Car Protector)”; the second grand award went to Ahmed Hassan Hessen in the Animal Sciences category for his project “Living with Termites”; the third grand award went to Sara Mohamed Samir in the Behavioral and Social Science category for her project “Do you know your Memory?”. The Research and Development Innovation Program (RDI) will support the grand awards winners with their needs to complete their researches until arriving to the Intel ISEF.
Other prizes went to under age participants to encourage them to keep on track.
Best effort award: Adel Ahmed Elkasrawy for his project “Helper 5000” in Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering category.
Best idea award: Mostafa Ahmed Sayed for his project “How do human harm predators animals?” in the Animal Sciences category.
Best team award: Mohtadi Ihab Barakat and Muhannad Ihab Barakt for their project “A useful use for the children crying” in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering category.
In addition to special awards; all special award winners also received an electronic microscope from the RDI:
- A certificate from the American Psychological Association went to Nourhan Mahmoud Soliman for her project “Women Harassment”; another certificate for Intel Excellence in Computer Science Awarad went to Mohannad Alaa Mekki for his project “Let all control”.
- A certificate from YALE Science and Engineering Association went to Mohammed Magdy Saad and Ahmed AbdElKarime Aly for their project “The third world’s worst problem…How can we make it useful?”.
- A certificate from Society for IN VITRO Biology went to Mohamed Aymen Zerban and Omar Amin Ghorab for their project “Assessing the best combination of human and animal sewage solid wastes for the highest amount of biogas production”.
- A certificate from RICHO went to Mai Alaa ElDin ElFkiy for her project “With or against”.
