Helsinki, September 27, 2011 - Finland.The 23rd European Union Contest for Young Scientists was held from From 23 to 28 September 2011. The Contest aims to encourage young people who have an interest in science to embark on scientific careers. It is part of the Science and Society program under the Seventh Framework Program for Research (FP7). The contest started in 1989 with the participation of 15 countries. This year, 37 countries and one of the European Schools are taking part in the 23rd edition of the contest.
More than 130 students from 37 countries presented 87 projects covering topics in a number of scientific fields such as: biology, chemistry, computing, social sciences, environment, mathematics, materials, engineering and medicine.
It is worth mentioning that Egypt participated this year in this competition for the first time with 3 projects in the field of environmental science in coordination between Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science & Engineering Fair(Intel BASEF), organized by the Planetarium Science Center, Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the program of research and development innovation (RDI ).
Azza Faiad’s one of our young scientists project on Environment Management won a special prize awarded from EIRO Forum.
