This month Astronomy Night discusses the basic concepts of astronomy, including differentiations between astronomy and astrology, astronomy and meteorology, and presents methods of identifying the cardinal points.
It also tackles the Big Bang theory, star birth, star death, the secrets of the solar system, a brief history of Egypt’s Helwan Observatory and Kottamia Observatory, the site of the largest telescope in the Middle East and North Africa.
Timeline:
1. Lecture, conducted by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Latif Tadross, Professor of Astrophysics, Head of the Astronomy Department, National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG).
2. Live stars show, given by Dr. Omar Fikry, Head of the Planetarium Section.
3. Astronomy contest, with prizes.
4. Observing session at the BA Plaza.
