Sharing the knowledge!
Why?
It is the mission of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Planetarium Science Center to communicate science in an informal and attractive manner to the public at large with special emphasis on children and youth. The five-year old Center looks at international institutions that have led the way in this relatively new field in search for successful experiences to learn from and emulate. However, new as it is, the Center has already created its own experience. To fulfill its mission, the Center is always searching for new ways to interact with other science communicators from all around the globe to improve its performance and help potential local science communicators progress.
The Electronic Resources Center website, divided into a public space and a restricted area, provides ideas and news about creative interactive workshops to the public, and provides a unique database of resources for partner science communicators. The restricted area of the website details the content of a large diversity of interactive workshops that are designed to provide children and youth with the opportunity of experiencing the magic of science in an enjoyable manner beyond the traditional methods of the classroom. The interactive workshops explained on the website guide animators in helping children and youth understand and practice teamwork by learning how to achieve better results through sharing and dividing work. The website also provides an arena for direct dialogue with the animators who create and operate the different workshops posted on the website.
The Electronic Resources Center will also serve as an asset and a tool in fulfilling the purpose and reinforcing the function of international science centers networks that the PSC is a member of. The PSC is the initiating member of the North Africa and Middle East Science centers network (NAMES) and a founding member of the Mediterranean Association for Science Advancement and Dissemination (MASAD). The PSC is also a member of the International Program Committee (IPC) of the Science Centers World Congress (SCWC). The PSC also collaborates with members of other international networks, such as ECSITE, ASTC, among others.
