27 January 2015
19 January, 2015, marks a very unique day in the history of the Planetarium Science Center of Bibliotheca Alexandrina and CERN organization. It is the Inauguration of “Alphabet of the Universe, From CERN to North Africa and Middle East” Exhibition. The Exhibition was established by the PSC in collaboration with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, founded in 1954 with the mandate of establishing a world-class fundamental physics research organization in Europe.
The Ceremony was attended by a number of distinguished guests in the field of science communication from both sides. From Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Eng. Hoda Elmikaty, Head of Cultural Outreach Sector, and Eng. Ayman Elsayed, Acting Director of PSC, who presented the opening speech and addressed the guests to present their speeches. And Ambassador Aly Maher. From CERN, Prof. Sergio Bertolucci, Director of Research and Scientific Computing, and Prof. Patrick Fassnacht. Also, Ms. Barbara Gallavotti, Science writer and TV author, and Ambassador James Moran, Head of European Union Delegation to Egypt.
The Ceremony, also included a tour at the Exhibition, exploring their layout and discussing their scientific thesis.
After that, the prominent guests enjoyed a traditional lunch at an authentic Alexandrian restaurant with the PSC team members who executed all the hard work.
It is worth mentioning that the Exhibition describes the main open problems of fundamental physics, the tools used to solve them and the applications of these technologies to society. The Exhibition was inspired by and based on CERN’s existing exhibitions and is partially designed and fabricated by the PSC, where it will remain displayed for a whole year at the Center’s Alexploratorium.
