Dust storm over Red Sea

On 26 July 2012, a dust storm blew off the shores of Sudan and into the Red Sea. NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a picture of the storm (Fig. 1) the same day, the third consecutive day of the dust activity.
A few dust plumes apparently originated from distinct locations near the coast, but farther inland, a large plume of dust also curved roughly to the northeast over the desert. A huge network of impermanent rivers stretching in the Nubian Desert, in northeastern Sudan, contains fine sediments which can supply dust storms.
