The Eratosthenes Festivity has become an annual tradition that takes place every year on 21 June at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the city of Aswan. It is designed for preparatory school students, and includes a series of activities that revolve around the methodology Eratosthenes used in measuring the Earth’s circumference 2,000 years ago.

This is because the month reschedules and changes the daily life, and it is time for fasting and devotion. The Science Festivity 2014 ceremony has started on the 16th of April and lasted for 2 days at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina plaza, the plaza welcomed visitors from all categories; individuals, families, groups and trips. The Science Festivity theme this year was under the overarching theme of “Human Life”, which includes subthemes which includes the following subthemes : modern technology, human Health, medicine and communication. The aim of the festivity is to raise public awareness of all aspects of life, the external effects on it and how to life a healthy life.

The Science Festivity is a successful event that takes place all around the world where schools, universities, associations, and institutions organize events revolving around Science. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Planetarium Science Center (PSC) has successfully organized the Science Festivity for seven consecutive years, which include science villages, lectures, live shows like, The Super Science Show, The Black theater, and other Entertainment shows, in addition to movies, Science Café and visits to the BA.

Nowadays, we frequently hear of astrology, and watch the forecasts of some persons, who claim to be astronomers. Is astrology a true science or superstition? Is it something else? How was astrology related to mankind since the antiquities? What is the science of the zodiacs, and what are its methods? What are the events that the astrologers were able to foretell, and how did they do that? What are the most famous failures of astrologers throughout history? Was astrology related to prophets? What are the modern attempts to validate astrology and horoscopes? What is the connection between astrology and astronomy? All these questions and more will be tackled in the lecture.

Lectures from active scientists give insight in topics and methods of basic research at the fundaments of matter and forces, enabling the students to perform measurements on real data from particle physics experiments themselves
