A Ringed Star Shines over the BA

On 16 January 2008, a bright Sun halo shone over Alexandria, Egypt. The dazzling spectacle lasted for several hours. Observing from the BA Plaza, BA Senior Astronomy Specialist, Aymen Ibrahem, took numerous interesting images of the Sun halo.


Pussycat and the Shell-less Snail

Garden slugs are shell-less land snails that resemble large worms. These amazing creatures are nocturnal animals, but during rains or damp weather, they may also be active during the day. They feed on plants, and can be a serious pest. BA Senior Astronomy Specialist, Aymen Ibrahem, observed garden snails and slugs during recent rain storms. He took numerous interesting images, showing the intriguing behavior of these slow-moving creatures.


Wake Up, Sleepy Gene

Some people can stay up all night and still get work done the next day. I am not one of them. After a night without enough sleep, I feel cranky. I have trouble remembering things. All I want to do is crawl back into bed and snooze.


The Funny Banana Eater

On 3 January 2008, a rainstorm occurred in Alexandria, Egypt. BA Senior Astronomy Specialist, Aymen Ibrahem, recorded the stages of the storm, and also took numerous interesting images of garden snails, nocturnal animals that may be active during rains.


A Butterfly’s Drama

On 9 June 2007, BA Senior Astronomy Specialist Aymen Ibrahem was exercising his favorite hobby of wildlife photography in a park in Cairo. He recorded in interesting pictures the drama of a blue butterfly that was attacked by a jumping spider.


A Ringed Star Dazzles Sky Observer

On 29 November 2007, there were magnificent patterns of high clouds in the sky of Alexandria, Egypt. Observing from the BA Plaza, BA Senior Astronomy Specialist Aymen Ibrahem, imaged a beautiful Sun halo that shone around the Sun during that day.


A Flight in the Clouds

12 December 2007
On the evening of 3 December 2007, the International Space Station flew over Alexandria, Egypt. The orbiting outpost rivaled the planet Jupiter in brightness. The flight lasted nearly five minutes. As it was drifting in the sky like a slow shooting star, it registered on the image as a bright dash beyond the scattered clouds.


A Miniature Solar System

NASA recently published a fantastic image of Saturn, the colorful ringed giant, and four of its icy moons. The image was acquired by NASA’s Saturn-bound Cassini spacecraft.


A Green Sunset

On 13 November 2007, shortly before sunset, there were scattered clouds in the sky of Alexandria, Egypt, but the western horizon was fairly clear. BA Senior Astronomy Specialist Aymen Ibrahem imaged rare optical atmospheric phenomena through his observation of the fascinating sunset and evening twilight of that day.


Chinese Spacecraft Enters Lunar Orbit

14 November 2007
On 24 October 2007, Chinese spacecraft Chang'e 1 was launched toward the Moon from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. On 5 November 2007, Chang'e 1 entered lunar orbit, beginning the first stage of the Chinese lunar exploration program.
