Mighty Jupiter, the largest planet, has a turbulent atmosphere. NASA's Hubble Space Telescope (HST) recently conducted intriguing observations of remarkable changes in the Jovian atmosphere. HST's images reveal a rapid transformation in the shape and color of churning clouds in the planet's equatorial region.

NASA recently published a stunning picture of Saturn's wonderful rings, acquired by the Saturn-bound Cassini spacecraft. The image shows Pan, Saturn's tiny moon, gliding through a gap in the rings, known as the Encke Gap.

NASA's Tropical Composition, Cloud and Climate Coupling (TC4) field campaign will begin this summer in San Jose, Costa Rica, investigating how chemical compounds in the air are transported vertically into the stratosphere and how that transport affects cloud formation and climate.

NASA scientists are studying images of the Hubble Space Telescope to plan for the Dawn spacecraft mission, scheduled for launch on 7 July 2007. Dawn's 4-year interplanetary cruise will feature orbiting Ceres (950 km across), the smallest dwarf planet, and Vesta (530 km across), one of the largest asteroids (minor planets).

Three planets now dazzle sky watchers worldwide. Venus, our twin planet; and Saturn, the ringed wonderful planet, are in a close conjunction in the western evening sky. If you look in the direction opposite to that of Saturn and Venus, you will find another evening luminary, Jupiter, the largest planet, shining close to the southeastern horizon.

Titan, Saturn's largest moon, is enshrouded in a thick veil of hazes that almost totally obscures the moon's surface. NASA's Saturn-bound Cassini spacecraft has peered through Titan's hazes, providing glimpses of the boundaries between bright and dark terrain on the moon's trailing hemisphere.

On 22 June 2006, Space Shuttle Atlantis landed safely at Edwards Air Force Base, California, ending a successful two-week emission to the International Space Station (ISS). With Commander Rick Sturckow and Pilot Lee Archambault at the controls, Atlantis touched down at 7:49 pm. GMT.
