Science Festivity 2011 - Science For All

On April 10 2011, the PSC organized the fifth Science Festivity. Each year, the Science Festivity has an overarching theme, around which activities, including hands-on exhibits, experiments, games, and sessions revolve. This year, the main theme was “Science and Scientists” emphasizing their pivotal role in the economic growth. The event took place from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, at the BA Plaza.

In the Science Festivity, textbooks and lessons are replaced by games, contests, and experiments. It is the place where science is fun.


Intel BASEF 2011 winning projects

The Planetarium Science Center (PSC), in collaboration with Intel Co. organized the Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF) hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) from 13-15 March 2011. The event was a success; this year, 63 projects participated in Intel BASEF; the students competed in all stages with enthusiasm and zest, introducing their creative abilities, scientific thinking, skills, and innovative ideas to the judges and the encouraging audience.


The Homo Sapiens Report: The Future of Humanity

An Oscar winning film director and co-founder of The Homo Sapiens Foundation, part of the UNESCO's Education for Sustainable Development, Dr. Michael Wadleigh is educated in physics and medicine, and is an expert in popularizing difficult information with special emphasis on global sustainable development. In his lecture “The Homo Sapiens Report: The Future of Humanity”, he focused mostly on global issues, with a special part about Egypt. “I hope the Egyptian people would consider some of the points I raise in this lecture while developing a new constitution for their country,” he told the audience.


Intel BASEF Students Symposium

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Planetarium Science Center will be organizing a symposium entitled “I-BASEF Students Symposium”, on Saturday, 29 January 2011, in order to bring together a league of college professors as well as intellectual scientists, to convey their experience and knowledge to an audience of young scientists, eager to explore different mysteries of science. The event is open to the public, 14-18 years of age.


Partial Solar Eclipse 2011

The Planetarium Science Center (PSC) invites your students and all interested people in astronomical phenomena to participate in observing a partial solar eclipse through special optical instruments under the supervision of specialised astronomers. Solar eclipses are among the most magnificent natural phenomena. They occur when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. In Alexandria, where the eclipse will begin at 9:03 am, the Moon will cover up to approximately 55% of the Sun’s apparent diameter. The eclipse will last 3 hours, and will also be visible in most of Europe, North Africa, and central Asia.
