Abstract:
This hands-on manual should help district health staff in systematically planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing SRH activities, as part of the overall district health plan. This manual is an action-oriented document which will facilitate improved coverage and quality of SRH services. Its main target audience are those individuals, alone or as part of the district health management team (DHMT), who have responsibility for the planning and management of sexual and reproductive health/ primary health care services in the district, including district managers and planners, district medical officers, nurses and midwives. directors or chief medical officers of district hospitals, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs), district coordinating and/or development committees, mission hospital staff, women’s organizations, youth groups. The manual facilitates strategic planning and management for a period of one to three years. The content is based on a management cycle that involves the review of existing services, strategic planning for additional or new activities, implementation, monitoring, performance review and evaluation. The manual guides the user through the different stages of this planning, monitoring and evaluation (PM&E) cycle.
