Abstract:
One of the pillars of the work of ICCO (the Dutch interchurch organization for development cooperation) is its promotion of peace and democracy. Supported local organizations: (1) teach civilians their rights and how they can claim these rights from their governments; (2) show civilians how they can influence policy; (3) strengthen the organizational structures for holding governments, multinationals, and multilateral organizations accountable; (4) promote a just society without impunity; and (5) encourage reconciliation among population groups.
