Abstract:
In February 2009 the first World Conference of Humanitarian Studies was held in Groningen, the Netherlands (see www.humanitarianstudies2009.org). PSO participated in the conference with a panel on Sustainable Capacity Building for Civil Society Organisation in Times of Crises. This document contains the three papers that were presented and discussed at this panel. The three papers look into capacity development from three different perspectives. The three papers are: (1) Capacity development for community based organisations in conflict-laden context, the programme of CWS in Aceh; (2) Sustainable capacity development in crisis, practice and lessons learnt for strengthening civil society organisations; and (3) Back from the trees, capacity development, humanitarian action and the wider challenge.
