Abstract:
The exhibition ‘Family stories from South Africa’ opened in 2002 in the Tropenmuseum Amsterdam, and was shown in the National Cultural History Museum in Pretoria between 2003 and 2007. Around and together with nine specific families an imaginative presentation was created by a great number of South African professionals.
The various contributions to this publication provide stimulating ideas on a broad range of questions concerning exhibition development, (re)presentation, self presentation, identity, multiculturalism and dealing with apartheid experiences in contemporary museum context.
