Devices used in diagnosis: In vitro tests, laparoscopic and
radiologic equipment. Devices used in treatment/prevention: surgical equipment, cardiovascular devices such as pacemakers, drug-delivery devices such as nebulizers. Devices used in monitoring: ultrasound. Potential for patient injury: false positives/negatives on diagnostic tests may have serious consequences. Infections can be transmitted via "dirty" devices. Biomaterials in devices (e.g. latex, silicone) can cause adverse events. Malfunctions can cause patient injury. |
