The author is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine. He has received three honorary degrees. He previously worked on collagen biosynthesis and genetic defects produced by mutations in collagen genes. More recently he has worked on developing the potential of adult stem cells to treat diseases of the skeleton, lung, heart and central nervous system. |
