The hierarchy of public health disciplines depicted in the previous flowchart is almost unreal. In practice, it is not surprising to find that there exits an interrelationship between
any of the two fields or disciplines listed in the diagram. The actual impact of one field on another, or its actual contribution to another, is perhaps more a matter of situation or of one’s own perception and perspective. For instance, in underdeveloped countries where public health is less a privilege, epidemiology as a formal field or profession is almost unheard of. In those countries, health risk assessment is also a luxury, not a necessity like medical care.
