Despite his efforts
between 1945 and 1952, the best Truman could achieve in regards to federal
intervention in medical care was to block Republican backed legislation
which would have established a poverty test for anyone seeking insurance aid,
and another bill which would have expanded the scope of the Blue Cross and
Blue Shield insurance systems, thus strengthening the AMA's and the AHA's
control over the American health care system. |
