The health
services required by the older Slavic population were determined by age-related disease
patterns different from those prevalent among younger Asian populations: chronic disabling
diseases such as heart disorders and cancer required primary preventive services and
specialized tertiary preventive services, as well as custodial long term care. The younger
republics required maternal-child services and sanitation, vitamins and nutritional
supplements, immunization and infectious-parasitic disease control, as well as adequate
environmental protection from toxic pollutants and unpotable water. |
