A normal bloodletting called for the removal of around 10 ounces of blood, though this procedure might be repeated 6 to 7 times daily.  Some physicians reported that they bled their patients regularly over extended periods of time, such as the accounts of letting 144 ounces of blood from one patient over 9 days by 1 physician, or another report of 600 ounces being removed from one patient over a 6 week span.  Both patients recovered.
