So, people get their patterns of behaviour from their
cultures; they adopt behaviours they are exposed to and learn about what they should do to
improve themselves and avoid disease or problems. The values they hold are different
depending on what information they have (knowledge) . Their risk for disease may be
increased by certain behaviours (smoking, certain dietary practices e.g. pickled foods)
which may be very resistant to change because they are deeply embedded in their culture
and thus their selves. Changing culture means change self and many cannot or do not like
to do this. Health interventions must try to accommodate and work within these
limitations. |
