This has a globalization
effect on health with possible health effects on local populations.
Travelers are also exposed to the health, safety and security considerations
of the local population. Rapid movement of travelers and diseases can result
in outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging infectious disease.
We have seen the results of globalization of health and safety with the
first emerging infectious disease of the 21 century, Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Other diseases such as avian influenza has also
caused problems in Asia. Several terrorist and natural disaster events have
also affected tourists, particularly the Bali bombings in 2002 and the Asian
Tsunami in 2004. |
