In 2005, the prevalence of smoking in the U.S. was highest among American Indian/Alaska Natives (32.0%) and next highest among non-Hispanic Whites (21.9%), followed by non-Hispanic Blacks (21.5%), Hispanics (16.2%), and Asians (13.3%) (CDC, 2006).
