The diagnosis of BVDV infection can be either by measurement of antibodies (by serum neutralising antibody or by ELISA) or of virus (by cell culture of infectious virus, viral antigen-capture by ELISA ). PI animals are usually antibody low or negative whereas they are virus positive. An important exception is that PI calves often appear virus negative in blood for 3-4 months, following ingestion of colostrum. |
