The standards of training and practice of
swnw
were set by the pharaoh’s physician, who stood at the apex of the medical
hierarchy. Beneath this individual were the palace physicians, including
the supervisor of physicians. The others were inspectors of physicians, a
group of lesser chief physicians, and a lower order of physicians comprising
the great bulk of practitioners. There were also
swnw
who took care of workmen and another group of physicians who looked after
miners. The lower order of Temple
swnw
visited patients' homes, the early house call, and there were army
physicians who accompanied military expeditions and treated soldiers in
their barracks.
