Pictures and diagrams can be used to better communicate information, convey medication instructions, and precautions.  Providers should also verify understanding by having the individual  “read back” the instructions they were given.  This provides encouragement along with emphasizing listening and sharing between patients and their provider.  This prescription for medication uses colors (pink and yellow)  to describe the pill,  and Suns and a Moon to describe the times of day.
