Aim - covers management in primary care, referral, assessment in secondary care and if appropriate shared medical management following such assessment.

Objectives: Data from the clinic shows that at any one time about 20% of patients are receiving medical management. A proportion of these will continue to be satisfactorily managed in this way. This indicates that some patients could be successfully managed by their GP . The development of evidence-based guidelines for the management of patients in primary care prior to and post referral would allow the expert secondary care service to focus on more demanding cases.
