Artificial intelligence (AI) in the Battle Against Covid-19
Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) in collaboration with Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program, Academic Research sector, Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) organized an online lectured on Sunday, 3rd of May, 2020 at 12:00 pm entitled ?Artificial intelligence (AI) in the Battle Against Covid-1? The lecture was delivered by Dr. Alaa Khamis, senior AI Expert at General Motors and a Lecturer at University of Toronto, Canada.

The webinar highlighted the many roles AI technologies play in fighting the New Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the resources available in this area to deal with the effects of the pandemic. Potential applications of AI in this accelerating pandemic include, but are not limited to, early detection and diagnosis, massive agent modeling and simulation, data analytics, assistive robots, disinfection robots, public awareness and patrolling, contactless last-mile delivery services, virtual healthcare assistants (chatbots) and drug repurposing/discovery and vaccine development. This talk highlights a number of potential applications to transform this challenge into opportunities. The speaker also presented general information on artificial intelligence types and characteristics, and how it is compared to natural or human intelligence.

This webinar was the first of a series of webinars explaining the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from the environmental and health aspects. They will also shed light on how artificial intelligence (AI) and 4th Industrial Revolution Technology can help fight COVID-19.
