Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance their work through international collaborations.

BA-TWAS-AAAS Regional Workshop on Science Diplomacy Call for Application

The deadline for submitting applications is 17 March 2019.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) through the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries’ Arab Regional Partner (TWAS-AREP) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) are seeking candidates to participate in the regional workshop on science diplomacy, that will be held on 12-16 June 2019 in Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria, Egypt.

The workshop will expose participants to key contemporary international and regional science policy issues while providing an overview of how science, technology and innovation contribute to policy development, global governance and conflict resolution.

Applications are invited from young Arab scientists (up to the age 40) as well as scientists, diplomats, representatives from NGOs, industry, and other sectors working at the science diplomacy nexus.

Applicants from Science & Technology Lagging Countries (STLCs) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) from the Arab region are especially encouraged to apply.

Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

Call for Interns

The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) is looking for interns to support their work as a research center in Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA). This is an unpaid internship for three months with fixed working hours.

The CSSP is an independent scientific non-profit institution affiliated to Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s (BA) Academic Research Sector and chaired by BA Director. Its mission is to become the nation’s premier force in the dissemination of good practice, advice, resources, and materials and for the delivery of need-based quality skills training for scientists and researchers. To support a network of partnerships with centers and elite institutions, the CSSP is committed to the development of quality science and the acceleration of new technologies. 

Working time:

Three days per week; 8 hours per day. 

Responsibilities:

  • Related administrative tasks including handling the center’s invitations, website, email,… etc.
  • Research related tasks.
  • Other tasks assigned.

Remuneration:

The intern will receive a recognition certificate from the CSSP by the end of the internship period.

Requirements: 

  • Have a graduate (Bachelor) or a (post-graduate) degree.
  • Scientific background is preferable.
  • Fluency in English language.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in using computer programs and applications (Microsoft office package, Database Management, Internet surfing, Typing, Writing/Editing…).
  • Report writing skills in English and Arabic.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective team skills and good presentation skills.

Call for Volunteers: Events Organizing Team

CSSP is seeking responsible volunteers to support organizing series of upcoming events (Conferences, Workshops, Public Lectures...etc.). Events Organizing Teams are mainly: Logistics and Organizing, and Media team.

Requirements:

  • Good command of Spoken and Written Arabic and English.
  • Team player.
  • Good communication Skills.
  • Can work under pressure.
  • Scientific Background is preferable.

Responsibilities:

As a volunteer in the logistics and Organizing team you will be assigned number of responsibilities, including:

  • Registration of all participants and guests.
  • Public relations duties, including VIP, Guests and speakers (coordinating transportation, welcoming and receiving, escorting during BA guided tours and to social events outside the library).
  • Ensure on-site preparations runs smoothly.
  • Other tasks assigned.

As a volunteer in the Media team you will be assigned number of responsibilities, including:

  • Media Coverage of the event (Photography and/or Video shooting)
  • Photo and video editing.
  • Update the different social media channels regularly.
  • Prepare reports on the events.
  • Other tasks assigned.
