Ever since the invention of batteries in the early 19th century, they have become a common power source for many devices. A battery is a device that converts chemical energy directly to electrical energy. In this Workshop, participants will be introduced to the different types of batteries, their components and how they work through hands-on experiments.


What is the Weather Today?

In this Workshop, the students will be introduced to different climate phenomena such as air pressure, fog formation, convection currents and tornadoes. Through a number of hands-on activities and experiments, the participants will learn how these climatic factors and phenomena work.


Design and Creativity Program

The Design and Creativity Workshop aims at developing soft skills and enhancing abilities to imagine and innovate. Through a number of hands-on activities, the Workshop aims to urge the students to think out of the box, think of new uses of different objects,  and redesign objects in a creative way.


Science Behind Musical Instruments

There are different types of musical instruments. Each instrument produces pleasant sounds that we enjoy listening to; yet, we do not know much about the science behind them. This Workshop introduces the notions of sound pitch and frequency, the relationship between both, and how they determine our perception of the musical instruments sounds.


Chemical Reactions

Chemical reactions are a part of our daily lives. They occur when two or more molecules interact, and a substance results. In this Workshop, students will understand how carbon dioxide reacts with acid solutions, such as lemon, through carrying out a number of hands-on experiments and watching explanatory movies.


Greco-Roman Architecture

From: 26 January 2013 To: 31 January 2013 Age Group: 9 -12 years

The Greco-Roman architecture has always fascinated spectators with its elegant appearance and strong long-lasting structure. In this Workshop, the participants are introduced to the materials and ways of constructions the Greco-Romans used, and to different types of Greco-Roman columns. It also tackles the city planning systems the Greco-Roman used.


Everyday Changes

From: 16 December 2012 To: 20 December 2012 Age Group: 9 -12 years

Chemical and physical reactions are all around us, and occur all the time in our daily lives. Preparing an orange soda, and experimenting with cucumber and pickled slices, or producing cheese out of milk, are examples of chemical reactions that the participants could experience during this workshop.

Magnets

Magnets have invisible magnetic fields which attract and stick onto steel items. In this workshop, students will be introduced to the circles of magnetism. They will also learn how materials lose their magnetic properties when raised past a certain temperature known as the Curie point.

Water Workshop

From: 02 December 2012 To: 06 December 2012 Age Group: 9 -12 years

Without water, there would be no life. It is vital for all forms of life; it constitutes 70.9% of the Earth’s surface, and makes up about two-thirds of the human body. In this workshop, students will learn about water treatment process, and its steps through a variety of hands-on activities.
