Abstract:
This bulletin reviews the actual and potential role of Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) in encouraging culturally appropriate prevention education, in promoting quality pastoral care, and in fostering compassionate non-judgmental service provision to people living with HIV/AIDS. Although the documented evidence base for the effectiveness of FBO interventions is still small, the review of lessons learned by leading experts provides sufficient ground to make recommendations. The forward looking recommendations take into account the areas in which FBOs have the potential to help and areas where they may hinder effective activities. This desk review should be seen as a starting point for further discussion and elaboration.
