Abstract:
In 2008, a study was conducted, commissioned by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), to assess the potential for biofuels to improve poor smallholders’ situation in the countries, without compromising food security and sustainable environmental management. Existing initiatives were evaluated as well as the potential for a biofuels sector in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam and Nepal. In particular, case studies were produced of biofuel projects involving smallholders. This report discusses the main findings.
