Abstract:
This book contains contributions by a variety of young scholars from the Global South who critically examine current participation discourses and their application in practice. The authors question donor-stimulated forms of participation as self-evidently positive, both theoretically and empirically. Theoretically, they address the need of the academic community to recalibrate its concepts given the emergence of post-colonial forms of analysis and the radical review of neo-liberal globalisation policies. Empirically, the authors have found that actor-rationalities are often simplified and not predictable. Their mix of theoretical and empirical innovation makes the book exciting reading.
