Biography:

Ayman Ahmed is an International Expert in Evidence-based One Health Systems Strengthening with about 15 years extensive expertise in Global Health Security and Pandemic’s Preparedness, Prevention, and Response. He has international experience in surveillance, research, and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases including Vaccines-preventable diseases. Ayman has extensive experience in operational research, capacity building, health policies and strategies and program development, as well as the assessment and evaluation of diseases control programs and health systems. His work focuses on institutionalizing integrated multisectoral One Health strategy and transdisciplinary evidence-making to inform policies and strategic planning and guide resources mobilization and implementation of cost-effective sustainable prevention and control measures diseases vectors mainly including Anopheles stephensi and Aedes albopictus as well as emerging diseases such as arboviral diseases in Africa. His Ph.D. in Epidemiology at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and University of Basel focused on “Evidence-based One Health strategy for strengthening Health Systems, Global Health Security and the Pandemic preparedness, prevention, and response in Africa”. His well-established expertise is highlighted by his outstanding record of high impact publications in prestigious peer-reviewed international journals and working for globally leading institutes including the Global Malaria Program, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Reference Center for the Emerging Viruses and Arboviruses (WRCEVA), the University of Texas Medical Branch, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), University of Khartoum, US Naval Medical Research Unit No.3 (NAMRU-3), Sudan Federal Ministry of Health. Furthermore, Ayman provides consultancy for several international organizations such as the WHO, The UN International Organization for Migration (IOM), Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), the Global Fund, RBM Partnership to End Malaria, and Human and Animal Health authorities in several countries including US, UK, Switzerland, Rwanda, Qatar, Eritrea, Tanzania, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Brazil, and Sudan. Recently, Ayman has led the development of Rwanda National Health Research Agenda 2024-2029. During the last five years, Ayman has established molecular xenosurveillance of malaria and arboviruses in Sudan and supported institutionalization of One Health in Sudan through Ministry of Health, led the global response to the invasive malaria Anopheles stephensi in Africa through (WHO) and assessing the risk and capacity of health systems in Africa for the surveillance and control of malaria vectors through the Global Fund. He also co-led the development of integrated surveillance and response system for arboviruses in Switzerland, supported the pandemics’ preparedness of health systems in Sudan, Rwanda, and Kenya. Regarding building the capacity of Ministries of Health for leading evidence-based policymaking and informed decision-making as well as guided implementation of interventions, Ayman led setting research priorities for Vector-borne Diseases in Qatar. His expertise in developing national strategies is indicated by him leading the development of the Sudan National Vector Control Response Strategic Plan 2021-2025, National Strategy for the Surveillance and Control of Anopheles stephensi in Sudan 2021-2025, and co-leading the development of Ethiopia National Strategy for the elimination of Anopheles stephensi.
