TWAS-ARO fourth annual meeting
The TWAS-Arab Regional Office (ARO) held its fourth annual meeting on 21-22 October 2008 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to discuss its achievements and future plans for the year 2008/2009.

Preceding the meeting, a general opening was held were Prof. Souma B. Jaoude from the American University in Beirut, Lebanon - the winner of the "TWAS Regional Prize for the year 2008: "The Development of Educational Material and School Science Curricula" was announced. The general opening was attended, as well, by members of the Arab Network of Networks for Science and Technology and members of the Arab federation of UNESCO clubs.

New TWAS-ARO young affiliates were also announced.

The TWAS-ARO meeting took place after the opening session, where Dr. Humam Ghassib, a TWAS member since 1988, chaired the meeting on behalf of Dr. Ismail Serageldin, and Dr. Mohamed El-Faham, Director of Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) presented the activities of TWAS-ARO during 2008.

The meeting was concluded with open discussions and some proposed ideas on how to support the scientific development in the Arab countries.
