Health Awareness Day on Hypertension

In collaboration with ASPSA (Alexandria Scientific Pharmaceutical Students' Association) and Shift-Network (Euro-Arab Youth Initiative), the CSSP (Center for Special Studies and Programs) will organize the Health Awareness Day on Hypertension as part of the Health Education Club (HEC)
The Health Awareness Day on Hypertension will be a lecture on Sunday, 31 March 2013, from 12:30 –3:00 pm, at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Conference Center, Lecture Hall. The lecture will be presented by Prof. Ahmad El Koraei, Professor at Renal Department, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, and Board Member at the Egyptian Medical Syndicate (EMS), Alexandria branch.
No Registration Fees are required.

TWAS Regional Prize 2013: Call for Nomination
Deadline for Nomiantion: 1 April 2013.
This year’s theme is Public Understanding and Popularization of Science.
TWAS Regional Prizes 2013 will be awarded in recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to popularize science, and have developed new strategies that serve the popularization of science and technology in developing countries.
Each TWAS Regional Prize winner will receive a USD 3,000 cash award.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates for a TWAS-ARO Prize must be scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least ten years. They must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Scientific research achievement of outstanding significance for the development of scientific thought.
- Outstanding contribution to the application of Science and Technology to industry or to human well-being in a developing country.
The nominations will only be accepted and valid from:
- Members of TWAS-ARO (http://www.bibalex.org/twasaro/members/list.htm).
- Science Academies, National Research Councils, Universities, Scientific Institutions from the Arab Region.
Note: Self nominations are not allowed.
A signed, stamped official nomination letter should be sent along with the nomination form (signed and dated by Nominator), CV and list of publications to israa.elfayoumi@bibalex.org; Cc: twas.aro@bibalex.org before 1 April 2013.

TWAS-ARO Young Affiliates 2013-2017: Call for Nominations

TWAS-ARO Young Affiliates 2013-2017: Call for Nominations
Nomination deadline: 1 April 2013.
Every year, each of the five TWAS Regional Offices selects up to five scientists to be "TWAS Young Affiliates" for a period of five years. During their tenure, Affiliates are invited to participate in TWAS general meetings and conferences.
This program, which began in 2007, seeks to identify the best young scientists in each region of the developing world and provide them with opportunities to network with one another, and with TWAS Fellows, as well as attend international conferences and other events for young scientists.
The appointments are made for a period of five years (covering five TWAS General Meetings).
TWAS Young Affiliates eligibility criteria:
- Less than 40 years old by January 2013.
- Native of a developing country from the Arab Region.
- Has at least 10 international publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Has lived and worked in a developing country for at least the past three years.
Nominations will only be accepted and valid from:
- Members of TWAS-ARO (http://www.bibalex.org/twasaro/members/list.htm).
- Science academies, national research councils, universities, scientific institutions and individual scientists from the Arab region.

GERSS – German Egyptian Research Short Term Scholarships
The German Egyptian Research Short Term Scholarship GERSS is a program jointly funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and the German Academic Exchange Service, Bonn (DAAD) in order to finance short term scholarships for young Egyptian scientists to travel to Germany.
The target groups of the program are researchers enrolled in MSc, PhD programs and young Post-Doctoral candidates.
The scholarships may be awarded for a period from three to six months. There are two calls for applications annually, namely the spring call and the autumn call.

Science Supercourse
Science Supercourse is a project jointly coordinated by Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Ronald Laporte, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh.
This effort was designed to improve information sharing among professionals and educators in four major fields of science: Public Health, Agriculture, Computer Engineering, and Environment. Lectures are shared in PowerPoint format to empower educators around the world.

The SSC is based on involving the community and encouraging professors and experts to participate by adding their own lectures to the website for the benefit of students and teachers everywhere.
