Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. Revamped Site Offers New Focus, New Tools for Science in the Developing World

TRIESTE, Italy – The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), a leading voice for science in developing countries, today unveiled a new website design that puts a sharp focus on the fellowships, research grants and other opportunities that it offers to researchers.

The site, www.twas.org, offers an array of upgrades and new features for visitors: A clear picture of the Academy's education, research and policy programmes. Easy, intuitive navigation. Interactive tools to illustrate TWAS's elite international network of elected Fellows and partner organizations. Formatting for tablets and a bright, forward-looking design that expresses its commitment to innovation.

TWAS is a global science academy based in Trieste, Italy, working to advance science, engineering and innovation for sustainable prosperity in the developing world. It has more than 1,100 elected Fellows from 90 countries – 15 of them are Nobel laureates – plus hundreds of current and former Young Affiliates and thousands of scientists who have participated in TWAS educational and research programmes. Many are at the top of their research fields or working at the highest levels of government and education.

TWAS and its partners offer nearly 500 fellowships each year to scientists in the developing world who want to pursue PhDs and postdoctoral research. TWAS prizes and awards are among the most prestigious given for scientific work in the developing world. The Academy distributes more than USD 1 million per year in research grants to individual scientists and research groups. It supports visiting scientists and provides funding for regional and international science meetings. It has programmes in science diplomacy and other fields, and issues a range of publications on science in the developing world.

AAAS-TWAS Summer Course on Science and Diplomacy - Call for Applications
8-13 June 2014

Deadline for application: 7 March 2014.

TWAS is inviting policymakers, diplomats with a science portfolio, as well as a number of young scientists from the developing world, to apply to attend a short course on science diplomacy in June.
 
The course is organized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and TWAS and aims to expose participants to some key concepts on the interactions between the scientific and policy-making communities, and to some contemporary international policy issues relating to science, technology, environment and health, while providing an overview of how scientific/technical information has been contributing more and more to policy development and organizational changes worldwide.

The AAAS-TWAS Course on Science and Diplomacy will be held from 8 to 13 June 2014 in Trieste, Italy.

GERSS - German Egyptian Research Short Term Scholarships

GERSS - German Egyptian Research Short Term Scholarships

Spring Call 2014/15

Deadline: 31 March 2014.

The German Egyptian Research Short term Scholarship GERSS is a program jointly funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and the German Academic Exchange Service, Bonn (DAAD) in order to finance short term scholarships for young Egyptian scientists to travel to Germany. The target groups of the program are researchers enrolled in MSc, PhD programs and young Post-Doctoral candidates. The scholarships may be awarded for a period from three to six months.
 
The scholarship shall enable advanced graduate students and young scientists to pursue part of their master’s, doctoral or post-doctoral research in a specific research project at German universities, archives, libraries or research institutes.
