The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) has the pleasure to announce the publishing of "New Life Sciences: The Road Ahead" Report on the BioVisionAlexandria 2016 Conference at Science Progress, volume 99, Number 4, December 2016, pp. 459–468. This Report aims to present an overview of the BioVisionAlexandria 2016 Conference (BVA 2016) which includes the Conference’s theme, program, as well as its conclusions and recommendations. It also sheds light on the Conference speakers, participants and the side activities; TWAS/BVA.Nxt’2016, Poster Session and BioFair.

BVA is an international biennial conference organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It is an important gathering that brings together distinguished speakers and Nobel Laureates from the four corners of the globe through rich discussions that commemorate science and the finest achievements of the human intellect. The Conference focuses on three major themes: Health, Food and Agriculture, and Environment. It also features a special exhibition entitled BioFair and a Poster Session for researchers and scientists.

TWAS is seeking nominations for the TWAS 2017 Prizes and the 2017 TWAS-Siwei Cheng Prize in Economic Sciences.

TWAS 2017 Prizes will be awarded to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least ten years prior to their nomination, in recognition of an outstanding contribution to knowledge or an outstanding contribution to the application of science and technology to sustainable development, in the following fields of science: Agricultural Sciences; Biology; Chemistry; Earth, Astronomy and Space Sciences; Engineering Sciences; Mathematics; Medical Sciences, Physics and Social Sciences (excluding economic sciences).
The newly-established TWAS-Siwei Cheng Prize in Economic Sciences will be awarded to an individual scientist for outstanding contribution in both understanding and addressing economic sciences.

The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), Bibliotheca Alexandrina, offers a number of Micro Research Grants (MRG) for Egyptian school students seeking funds to finance innovative ideas in one of the following categories:

• Biology
• Chemistry
• Engineering
• Environmental Studies
• Information Technology
• Materials Science
• Physics

Eligibility Criteria

• Students must have an idea for an invention that can be executed, developed, and improved.
• Students must have a mentor for their project.
• Student(s) can submit an individual or team project. The team cannot exceed four students.
• Application forms and required documents are to be completed and submitted before Friday, 31 March 2017.
