Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance their work through international collaborations.

International Workshop on:

Cities, Science and Sustainability

20 to 22 September 2007, Trieste, Italy

An international workshop examining successful approaches to 'cities, science and sustainability' will be held at TWAS's headquarters in Trieste, Italy, from 20 to 22 September 2007. Institutions in developing countries are invited to respond by 1 July 2007 indicating their interest in participating in the workshop and presenting a report highlighting successful initiatives in using science and technology in solving problems of sustainability associated with large urban areas, these initiatives must be based on a city in a developing country, including (but not limited to):

  • Access to safe drinking water
  • Sanitation
  • Air pollution
  • Housing and construction
  • Land use planning
  • Transport
  • Traffic congestion
  • Waste disposal

The project 'Cities, Science and Sustainability' is a collaborative effort between TWAS, the Consortium for Science, Technology and Innovation for the South (COSTIS) and the United Nations Development Programme's Special Unit for South-South Cooperation (UNDP-SSC).
