Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The International Programme for Higher Education and Research (IPHER) provides over 250 fellowships tenable in developing countries such as Brazil, China, India and Pakistan for scientists from developing countries. Fellowships, for various lengths of time, are available for postgraduate, postdoctoral and advanced research.

Call for Papers

International Co-operation on Environmental Issues:
Asian and European Perspectives

We are calling for contributions on the above with a comparative or policy oriented focus.

Submissions could explore developments in the field of general environmental policies in Europe and Asia (including decision making), or address specific issues like climate change policies, environmental agreements and trade, environment and industry, as well as other relevant topics in sustainable development (e.g. water management and marine life, ecological agriculture, sustainable forestry and habitat protection, sustainable energy and transportation, etc...) on one or both continents. We particularly welcome contributions that explore the potential of cooperation between Asia and Europe in these fields.

Papers should be written in English and be preceded by a short abstract. The paper should not exceed 7000 words. Only previously unpublished manuscripts are accepted for consideration.

Deadline of submission: 15 April 2008

Upon publication, an honorarium of 300 euros will be granted.

The Workshop was Organized in collaboration with the Education Reform Program and the Ministry of Education.

The event main focal point was about the new Egyptian Education strategy, which aims to a whole reform in the educational system, and raising its quality to what suits the present standards of employment, and to guarantee a new generation that can compete with the technological revolution.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ismail Serageldin who made a presentation on education reflections on Egypt and H.E. Dr. Yousry El Gamal, the Minister of Education who presented an introduction on the new education strategy.The inauguration was attended 140 attendees.

The second day was composed of 5 parallel sessions, discussing the new education strategy from 5 different perspectives;

  • Environmental
  • Cultural
  • Social
  • Scientific
  • Economic

A press conference was held with H.E. Dr. Yousry El Gamal, Followed by a closing session to declare the 5 committees’ recommendations.

The workshop concluded with a final word from H.E. Dr. Yousry El Gamal stating that the main aim of the strategy is to raise the qualifications of the educational system through an equal opportunity system to all students.
